Chairperson of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms at the round table on political and public life of persons with disabilities

 Round table organised within the project Dignified Enabled Voting – DEVOTING

Member of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms Mr Suad Numanović took part in the project Dignified Enabled Voting – DEVOTING organised by the Association of Youth with Disabilities of Montenegro (AYDM) with the support of the British Embassy Podgorica.

The round table was organised within the project Dignified Enabled Voting – DEVOTING, whose aim is to encourage and support better conditions for participation of persons with disabilities in guaranteeing and exercising electoral rights as a precondition for democratic participation in decision-making processes. The aim of this project is to advocate changes in electoral legislation in the area of guaranteeing the rights of persons with disabilities to a dignified, self-serving and secret vote, and the activities include media campaigning and advocacy during in amending electoral legislation by the Committee for Further Reform of Electoral and Other Legislation, as well as participation in the work of the Committee, submitting specific proposals for amendments to the law, or their alignment with the recommendations of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the ODIHR.

The following parliamentarians took part in the round table Ms Marta Šćepanović, Mr Ervin Ibrahimović, Mr Boris Mugoša and Ms Anka Vukićević.

Mr Suad Numanović, Mr Ervin Ibrahimović, Ms Anka Vukićević and Mr Boris Mugoša, representatives of the Ombudsman’s Office of Montenegro, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights, political parties and non-governmental organisations dealing with the protection of rights of persons with disabilities.

The participants agreed that positions towards persons with disabilities should be changed, in order to contribute to changing the situation and existing practices in this field. Participation of persons with disabilities in all processes is very important, so it is necessary to take care of interests of all citizens in order to make good solutions.
