Chairperson of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants hosts the Director General of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities

 

One of the priorities of Montenegro's national policy is concern for emigrants, and the Parliament of Montenegro has devoted special attention to improving cooperation with emigrants and promoting their interests, Mr Andrija Nikolić pointed out, Chairperson of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants at the meeting with the Director General of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities, Mr Mehmet Köse.

Long-standing friendly relations between Montenegro and Turkey are the best platform for further improvement of cooperation between the two countries in a number of areas, which has been evidenced by the regular activity of granting scholarships for students from Montenegro for education in Turkey, conducted by the Presidency, headed by Mr Köse, Mr Nikolić said.

In this regard, Nikolić thanked the Director General, Mr Köse, for contributing to the positioning of Montenegro as the leader with regard to the number of students that have been users of scholarships provided by the Government of the Republic of Turkey, compared to the number of inhabitants. Pointing out that the very students who are studying in Turkey have represented a special relationship between the two countries, Mr Nikolić said he expected that in the period to come there will be considerably more interest and opportunities for education of Turkish students in Montenegro.

Director General of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities, Mr Mehmet Köse, expressed satisfaction with the meeting, stressing that the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between Montenegro and the Republic of Turkey has also been reflected in the cooperation of the mother country with her diaspora, and that, in accordance with the practice in the parliaments of the region, the forming of a special committee has been planned in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey as well, which would be dealing with issues of cooperation with the diaspora.

During the meeting, Mr Nikolić and Mr Köse also discussed concrete activities, experiences and good practices in the field of cooperation with the diaspora.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Montenegro, H.E. Mr Serhat Galip, as well as the Director of the Department of Culture and Social Affairs, Mr Memet Kilić, the coordinator for the Balkan countries, Ms Sevila Unal and the expert at the Director General of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities, Mr Ismail Yildiz.
