By adopting a new law on cooperation with the diaspora - emigrants, Montenegro further affirms its commitment to strengthening ties with the emigrants and establishing a sustainable system of cooperation, said Chairperson of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants Mr Andrija Nikolić, at a meeting with representatives of the National Council of the Montenegrin National Minority in the Republic of Serbia, held in Sremski Karlovci.
In a conversation with representatives of the National Council, Mr Nikolić pointed out that this format of the emigrants gathering was the best opportunity for the Committee to directly learn about the manner of operation of our emigrant community in the Republic of Serbia and carefully note all the difficulties in their functioning.
Welcoming the direct dialogue with the Chairperson of the parliamentary Committee on International Relations and Emigrants, representatives of the National Council took the opportunity to point out the problems they were facing in their work and put forward the suggestions on the Proposal for the Law on cooperation with the diaspora - emigrants.
Discussing the problems in the functioning of the National Council in Serbia, Mr Nikolić emphasised that this body should personify a strong intellectual and moral composition, voicing his hope that elections for the new composition of the Council would be the first step in overcoming the difficulties in its work.
Also, Mr Nikolić reiterated the importance of involving young people in the work of emigrants’ organisations and emphasised the significance of their cultural elevation and strengthening their belonging to the motherland.
They agreed on the continuous cooperation and exchange of information, aimed at more effective work and better coordination of activities between the emigrants and the motherland.
The meeting in Sremski Karlovci was attended by the Montenegrin Consul General in the Republic of Serbia Mr Miodrag Kankaraš.
