Montenegro is getting closer to the European Union every month and progressing steadily in the integration process, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Montenegro, Mr Artur Dmochowski, assessed at a meeting with the Chairperson of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants, Mr Andrija Nikolić.
The Polish ambassador expressed satisfaction with the progress Montenegro has made and emphasised that Montenegro's membership in NATO was a major step forward that would be followed by a certain membership in the EU.
Committee Chairperson, Mr Andrija Nikolić, and the Polish Ambassador, Mr Dmochowski, agreed it was necessary to fill the geopolitical gap as soon as possible, by integrating the Western Balkan countries into a community of European nations.
Mr Nikolić thanked the Ambassador for a good understanding of the political and economic situation in the region and support and interest expressed in continuing cooperation and valuation of the common interests of the two countries.
In this regard, the possibility of establishing direct contacts between parliamentary committees on foreign affairs of the Parliament of Montenegro and the Parliament of Poland was especially discussed.
Speaking about the need for infrastructure connections and investments in this area, Ambassador Dmochowski pointed out that the construction of the first highway in Montenegro was an important step towards further development, and that infrastructure represented a basis for economic growth.
The interlocutors assessed that the relations of the two countries have been friendly, expressing mutual interest to further improve those in the fields of economy, tourism, agriculture and culture, as well as to strengthen parliamentary cooperation.
