If the political climate in Europe, following the elections for the European Parliament, guarantees the preservation of key principles of the enlargement policy, Montenegro will, without a doubt, be the first next EU member, it was concluded at the meeting of the Chairperson of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants  Mr Andrija Nikolić and Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Montenegro H.E. Mr Mitja Močnik.

Montenegro finds it very important that the EU and its member states continue the principled approach to the enlargement policy and progress in this process, in line with the achieved results and the individual merits of each country individually, emphasised Chairperson of the Committee Mr Andrija Nikolić.

Ambassador Mitja Močnik pointed out that the responsible and successful cooperation of Montenegro with the countries in its neighbourhood made our country a part of the solution, and not a part of the problem in the regional context, which was also recognised internationally.

The interlocutors agreed in their assessment that it was certain that the upcoming elections for the European Parliament as well as the Brexit situation would have an impact on the EU, but they also voiced the expectation that enlargement should remain a priority which in the interest of the stability of the Western Balkans and ultimately of all European Union member states.

In order to continue the successful parliamentary cooperation, Chairperson of the Committee Mr Andrija Nikolić handed Ambassador Močnik a letter of invitation addressed to the Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Policy of the Slovenian National Assembly Mr Matjaž Nemec, inviting him to visit the Parliament of Montenegro along with his colleagues in the first quarter of the current year.
