Working meeting of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants with resident diplomatic representatives of NATO states

The Committee on International Relations and Emigrants held a working meeting with resident diplomatic representatives of NATO states, attended by President of the Parliament Mr Ivan Brajović and National Coordinator for NATO Mr Dragan Pejanović.

The President of the Parliament expressed special thanks to the members of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants and NATO
Membership Council's Communication Team, which, in cooperation with the Embassy of Hungary, as a contact point Embassy, have organised today’s gathering.

Noting that we are one step away from NATO membership, President Brajović said that the merit for achieving this key foreign policy objective belonged not only to the state bodies of Montenegro, which were committed to achieving standards and meeting the necessary criteria, but also to NATO member states, which have been providing constant support and encouragement to Montenegro on this path.

- All together, we must make final effort for the benefit of all of our states and finalise this important issue, the President of the Parliament said.

He said that this item would be on the agenda of the Parliament of Montenegro with no delay, right after the Protocol on Montenegro’s Accession will have been ratified in all NATO member states.

Chairperson of the of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants Mr Andrija Nikolić thanked to the ambassadors of NATO member states for recognising the importance of the Committee’s initiative for holding a joint meeting, assessing that there was a clear majority in the Parliament of Montenegro supporting Montenegro’s membership of NATO, including the representatives of the ruling coalition but also some parties from the opposition.

- We are working patiently and devotedly that that historic day, which will complete Montenegro’s independence and strengthen our and regional stability, happens as soon as possible, Mr Nikolić said.

Mr Nikolić expressed pleasure with pace of the ratification process, emphasising that only four countries were left to ratify the Accession Protocol, and after that the Committee and the Parliament would readily wait for the obligation which would be on their agendas soon.

- We are absolutely convinced that we will adopt that decision soon in this high and distinguished home, in line with the Constitution, Mr Nikolić said.
