MPs Mr Nikolić and Mr Škrelja take part in Summit of Foreign Affairs Committees of European and Balkans countries

Participants in the Summit signed a Joint Declaration on the significance of clear perspective of integration of the Western Balkans countries in the European Union - as a guarantee of peace, stability and progress of the region

Upon the invitation of the Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo Mr Elmi Reçica, Chairperson of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Andrija Nikolić and a member of the Committee Mr Luigj Shkrela took part in the Summit of Foreign Affairs Committees of European and Balkans countries, which took place in Prishtina, from 19 to 21 February. The gathering was dedicated to perspectives of the EU enlargement, regional cooperation, migrant and refugee crisis, and fight against terrorism and radicalism in the region.

In addition to representatives of seventeen European parliaments, participants in the Summit also included President of the Republic, President of the Assembly, and Prime Minister of Kosovo Mr Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli and Isa Mustafa respectively, as well as numerous ministers of the Government of Kosovo. At the end of the Summit, participants agreed through a Joint Declaration that the integration of the Western Balkans countries in the European Union was the best guarantee of peace, stability and progress of the region.

Chairperson of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants Mr Andrija Nikolić had a separate meeting with the host of the Summit, Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo Mr Elmi Reçica. On that occasion, Mr Nikolić voiced his expectation that the issue of demarcation of the state border between Montenegro and the Republic of Kosovo would soon be resolved within the Assembly of Kosovo, with assessment that the Montenegrin side, with its constructive position, prudent action, and avoidance of direct involvement in public debate, managed not to contribute to further deepening of political tensions in Kosovo. According to Mr Reçica, the Government of Kosovo saw nothing contentious about demarcation with Montenegro, and as he said, intensive dialogue was underway to put that issue on the agenda of the Assembly of Kosovo as soon as possible.

Delegation of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants met with representatives of the Association of Emigrants from Montenegro in the Embassy of Montenegro to Prishtina. Chairperson Nikolić informed the attendees that it was necessary to form a Coordination Committee as soon as possible, which would be a unique address of all Montenegrin emigration associations in Kosovo. Mr Nikolić and Mr Shkrela informed the representatives of emigrants that by forming one such body, along with the logistics of the Council for Cooperation with Emigrants, the Montenegrin Embassy and the Government of Kosovo, the process of the official constitutional recognition of the Montenegrin minority in the Republic of Kosovo would be accelerated, and, through elected representatives of Montenegrins, conditions for their participation in political and social processes in Kosovo would be ensured.

The meeting between representatives of the Committee and emigrants was organised by Ambassador of Montenegro to the Republic of Kosovo H.E. Mr Ferhat Dinosha and First Secretary to the Montenegrin Embassy to Prishtina Mr Skender Šarkinović.
