Mr Nikolić meets with Ms Uyehara

By ignoring the call of the US Vice-President, Mr Pence, to return to the Parliament, the Montenegrin opposition missed the last chance to present itself, even apparently, as an alternative to the Montenegrin authorities, Mr Andrija Nikolić said, the Chairperson of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants, during the meeting with the US Ambassador, Ms Margaret Ann Uyehara.

Mr Nikolić pointed out that such deliberate "misunderstanding" of the good-natured suggestions coming from top international officials was not a surprise, because it was not the first time that the leaders of the Montenegrin opposition had demonstrated that their accumulated hatred for the ruling party and its first man stoped them from fulfilling their obligation, as elected representatives of citizens, to serve the country's interests and of society as a whole. According to Mr Nikolić, however, it is particularly worrying the fact that the leaders of the civil opposition "stayed silent" to publicly announced position of the Vice-President, Mr Pence, regarding the attempts of Russian agents to destabilise Montenegro on the election day and kill the former prime minister.

The Chairperson of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants of the Parliament of Montenegro, said that the recent visit of the US Vice-President, Mr Michael Pence, occurred at the right moment for Montenegro and Euro-Atlantic allies, primarily in terms of strengthening our country's position on the political and security map of the region, but also as a direct answer to those who have not given up in trying to destabilise the Western Balkans. This is, according to Mr Nikolić, at the same time the most convincing display of the quality of Montenegrin - American relations.

With the gratitude expressed to the Ambassador Uyehara, for continuous support that Montenegro have received from the United States during the most turbulent phases of the recent history, when it had been necessary to preserve civil peace and defend the right to decide for ourselves about our own future, the Chairperson of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants, expressed his expectation that the recent visit of the US Vice-President to Montenegro and the clarity of the messages sent, would be an additional incentive for all progressive forces in the country and the region to be even more actively engaged in promoting the values of democracy and the rule of law, which had been the roadmap to a better and more equitable living and working environment of every man.
