Members of the Committee on Political System, Judiciary and Administration and of the Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Sports met on 12 September 2017 with the expert team regarding the preparation of the Media Sector Analysis, within the framework of the joint project of the EU and the Council of Europe.

At the meeting, they discussed current legislative framework in the media field. The participants said that the meeting was on the satisfactory level, giving a good basis for further activities of the institutions dealing with implementation of the laws from the said field.

They also discussed activities of the working bodies and the Parliament of Montenegro, which, based on the aforementioned media laws, are in charge of proposing and electing the RTCG Council and the Council for Electronic Media, in terms of finding room for further improvement in the implementation of both the procedure and election of professional staff.

The experts agreed with the Chairperson of the Committee on Political System, Judiciary and Administration that the working bodies in charge of the implementation of media laws, via monitoring mechanism, prescribed by the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament of Montenegro, may contribute to both - better application and recognising the need for making certain amendments to the said set of laws.

On behalf of the Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Sports, the meeting was attended by Chairperson of the Committee Mr Radule Novović.

The meeting was also attended by members of the Council of Europe expert team:  Ms Snežana Trpevska, Ms Jelena Surčulija-Milojević, Mr Jean-Francois Furnemont, Mr Marc Janssen, and Ms Tanja Kerševan-Smokvina.
