MP Ms Nada Drobnjak at the Women Political Leaders Summit

Chairperson of the Gender Equality Committee Ms Nada Drobnjak participates in the Women Political Leaders (WPL) Annual Summit in Reykjavík, Iceland, on 28-30 November.

The Summit organised by the WPL in cooperation with the Council of Women World Leaders (CWWL), and the Parliament and Government of Iceland, has gathered female presidents and prime ministers, ministers, parliamentarians and mayors from all over the world.

The forum has been held under the title  "We Can Do It!" and it presented an opportunity for participants to discuss global challenges, exchange best practice with regard to achieving gender equality, as well as to take part in political dialogue reflecting the influence and future of female leaders worldwide.

During the three-day conference, the Chairperson of the Gender Equality Committee participated in the following sessions: “Stop Sexism - #Metoo”, “Women Peacemakers”, “A Changing Global Order? Rethinking Policies of Peace, Security, and Defence”, “The Way Forward: Living Digital?”, “A Woman’s Place is in Politics”, “Make Trade, Not War”, “Girl2Leader - Lead like a Girl!”, “The Pursuit of Gender Equality: An Uphill Battle”, “ When you Invest in Girls and Women, Everybody Wins”, “Iceland: the Global Champion of Gender Equality”, “How to Turn the Sustainable Development Goals into Reality”.

At the opening of the conference, the following spoke: President of Iceland Mr Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, Speaker of Althingi Mr Steingrímur J Sigfusson, President of WPL Ms Silvana Koch-Mehrin, Prime Minister of Iceland Mr Bjarni Benediktsson, as well as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iceland Mr Guðlaugur Þór Þorðarson.

A special guest of the conference was also the first democratically elected female President of Iceland Ms Vigdís Finnbogadóttir (1980-1996).
