Gender Equality Committee holds its 34th Meeting

Montenegro’s Report on the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA) and the Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030 (AGENDA 2030) was considered

At today’s meeting of the Committee, Minister for Human and Minority Rights Mr Mehmed Zenka presented Montenegro’s Report on the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA) and the Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030 (AGENDA 2030), which the Government of Montenegro sent to the UN for taking further action.

In order to consider a comprehensive national-level review, Montenegro’s Report on the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA) and the Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030 (AGENDA 2030) was drafted. The Report’s methodology is in line with the Guidance note for comprehensive national-level reviews done by the UN Women and regional UN commissions in order to assist in the conduct of comprehensive national-level reviews.

In 2020, for the first time, there will be a fully established and parallel review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action with the Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030. Pursuant to this, Montenegro’s Report on the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA) and the Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030 reviews progress on laws, policies and strategies; institutional mechanisms for gender equality; the transformation of discriminatory norms and gender stereotypes; investments to close resource gaps; accountability for existing commitments and capacity building, data collection, monitoring and evaluation.  The achievements are assessed based on evidence, as well as obstacles and challenges in these areas. Montenegro’s Report synthesises progress in the past five years.

Following the discussion, the Committee unanimously supported the Report.

Within the item of the agenda Current issues, the Committee was informed about the activities between meetings and the upcoming activities.

The meeting was attended by Mr Mehmed Zenka, Minister of Human and Minority Rights, and Ms Biljana Pejović, Head of the Gender Equality Department at the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights.
