Committee on Tourism, Agriculture, Ecology and Spatial Planning holds a meeting with regard to banning the use of animals in circuses

Chairperson of the Committee on Tourism, Agriculture, Ecology and Spatial Planning Mr Petar Ivanović and members of the Committee Ms Ana Nikolić and Mr Mirsad Murić met representatives of the Directorate for Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Affairs (Directorate) and Association “Korina”. The reason for the meeting is proposal to ban the use of animals in circuses, sent by non-governmental organisation Association “Korina” to the Committee on Tourism, Agriculture, Ecology and Spatial Planning.

The meeting addressed the issue of banning animal dressage for public performances in Montenegro. In that context, representatives of the Association said that they were conducting continuous campaigns for improving the conditions of living and treatment, not only of wild, but also of domestic animals in the territory of Montenegro. They stressed that all the procedures for entrance of animals in Montenegro were compliant with the relevant EU regulations and that all animals were under constant inspection and health control. They welcomed the efforts by the Association “Korina” in monitoring the conditions of security, housing and ethical attitude towards animals.  

MPs stressed that citizens should be educated with the aim of raising awareness on the need of co-existence of people, animals and nature, with constant monitoring of the cultural phenomenon of animal entertainment in the region and Europe.
