At the Seventh Sitting of the First Ordinary (Spring) Session of the Parliament of Montenegro that was held today, scheduled by Mr Ivan Brajović, President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr Milo Đukanović took an oath and assumed the office of the President of Montenegro.
At the opening of the Sitting, President Brajović said that "today, in the Old Royal Capital of Cetinje, we proudly admit to office the President and bind him to respect and protect the noble values of the Constitution of Montenegro together with us and to promote the spirit of freedom, justice, togetherness, solidarity and prosperity. In order for every citizen of our country to achieve success and find happiness, regardless of individual and group differences." The President of the Parliament of Montenegro emphasised: "Our path is your path as well, Mr Đukanović, and it will not be easy nor simple one. The goal of Montenegro to become a member of the European Union is achievable because there exists the majority support of citizens who believe in the Montenegrin vision and Your determination to provide the most of your powers during a five-year mandate in order to achieve it," Mr Brajović said, adding that the values that the President should be a representative of are: understanding, tolerance, promotion of the rule of law, development and progress of the society as a whole, care for every citizen individually. "On this path, we will be your true allies and true critics," the President of the Parliament concluded, among other things.
In his inauguration speech, the President of Montenegro said that he has assumed the office of the President of Montenegro with the feeling of exceptional honor and responsibility, proud of the achievements of contemporary Montenegro, which over the past two decades skipped centuries. "It is not a common privilege to find oneself after 20 years at the same place, at the Government House in the Old Royal Capital of Cetinje, on the same occasion - assuming the responsibilities of the President of Montenegro," Mr Đukanović added, and concluded that "with the honor and responsibility at the time of taking over the presidential duties, he wished to thank the citizens of Montenegro for the trust they had given him."
After the President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr Ivan Brajović, concluded the Sitting, the Ceremonious military salute on the plateau in front of the Government House followed. The Commander of the Honour Guard Unit of the Army of Montenegro delivered a report to the President of Montenegro, Mr Milo Đukanović, who greeted the Montenegrin flag and walked past the Honour Guard, saluting them with "The Army of Montenegro, hello!", followed by the firing of six gun salute by the Army of Montenegro, traditionally heard on the eve of the Independence Day.
The Seventh Sitting of the First Ordinary (Spring) Session of the Parliament of Montenegro, besides the MPs of the 26th Convocation of the Parliament of Montenegro, was attended by members of the Government of Montenegro, former Presidents of Montenegro, the Parliament and the Government, high-level state officials, heads of state institutions, the representative of descendants of the Petrović Njegoš Dynasty, mayors of the Capital City and of the Old Royal Capital of Cetinje, religious dignitaries, university rectors, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Montenegro, non-resident ambassadors and military defense delegates accredited in Montenegro, representatives of international organisations, presidents of municipalities and others.
