Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Genci Nimanbegu today has met Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania Mr Gent Cakaj.
The interlocutors assessed that relation between Montenegro and the Republic of Albania were excellent, with no open issues, but that there was always opportunity for the improvement.
In the open and friendly conversation, the Vice President of the Parliament informed minister Cakaj about political situation in Montenegro, primarily in the light of the second boycott of the Parliament by the opposition. He is convinced that the Parliament itself is the only place for political dialogue. The working group for the improvement of electoral trust, created in the Parliament of Montenegro, is not functioning at the moment:
- Montenegro is a state for which good neighbourly relations are a priority and it has good relations with all of its neighbours, the host said.
The internal political conflict that we are experiencing these days in both of our states, Mr Nimanbegu continued, is a challenge for democracy, but that there is always a hope to resolve them for the benefit of the citizens.
- We, Albanians in Montenegro, are trying not to provoke additional problems which would burden already diametrically opposed positions of the government and the opposition. We are certainly fully engaged in strengthening the state authorities, the Vice President added.
Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania Mr Gent Cakaj assessed highly Montenegro’s position as a regional front-runner in European integration and expressed hope that Montenegro would support belated integration of Albania. As for economic relations, the interlocutors agreed that although good they could be further improved, while beneficial assets in this regard are new border crossings and cooperation through IPA funds.
With regard to the position of Albanians in Montenegro, they expressed their views on proactive role of the Republic of Albania, which is also their constitutional obligation.
The head of diplomacy congratulated to the Vice President on the results of the first elections in the municipality of Tuzi, positive that the results would not lack, and that it would result in the progress of Tuzi as developed municipality.
They discussed the cooperation of Albania and Montenegro, particularly with Albanians in this state, in the field of education, culture, etc.
At the end of the meeting the interlocutors agreed that meetings between the Republic of Albania and Montenegro at all levels were fruitful and encouraging for Albanians in Montenegro.
