President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr Ivan Brajović, met today with Mr Gunter Krichbaum, Chairman of the Committee on European Affairs of the German Bundestag.
A guest from Germany pointed out that since restoring its independence, Montenegro achieved remarkable progress, much has been done, but there was still work left to be done, said the Chairman of the Bundestag Committee.
Mr Krichbaum stressed that the strengthening of the rule of law, the fight against corruption and crime, covered by chapters 23 and 24, would bring the greatest benefits to the citizens of Montenegro.
When it comes to the integration of the Western Balkans, Germany advocates that the quality of reforms should determine the speed of accession of the candidate countries to the European Union and that the stabilising role and good neighborly relations of Montenegro in the region should be especially appreciated.
Regarding the boycott, the interlocutors agreed the parliament was the only place for discussion and decision making. Mr Krichbaum stressed that in Germany it would be unimaginable for the elected MPs to refuse to represent the interests of their voters in parliament. In this context, he added that the fair nature of the previous parliamentary elections in Montenegro could not be questioned, especially since the relevant international institutions assessed that the voting was correct and elections implemented in the framework of the rule of law.
President Brajović thanked for the continued support of Germany to Montenegro on its Euro-Atlantic and European path and stressed that it was important that the EU and its members supported the regatta principle.
The President of the Parliament of Montenegro believed that in the process of negotiations, primarily in the interests of the citizens of Montenegro, priority should be given to the quality of reforms and that we changed the state and society for the better with their implementation.
