Collegium of the President considers the Proposal for the Decision on the forming of the Committee on further reform of electoral and other legislation

The Collegium of the President of the Parliament of Montenegro held today continued its work on harmonising the text of the Proposal for the Decision on the forming of the Committee on further reform of electoral and other legislation, to be sent to the Parliament for further consideration. It is expected that the final version of the Proposal for the Decision would be determined at the following meeting of the Collegium of the President, scheduled for Friday 26 October.

The Proposal for the Decision will be the third item of the agenda of the Third Sitting of the Second Ordinary (Autumn) Session in 2018, on Tuesday 30 October, after which the Committee members will be nominated at the first next meeting of the Administrative Committee.

In the statement following the meeting, President of the Parliament Mr Ivan Brajović pointed out that the Committee's work must end by 30 September of the following year, to ensure timely implementation of the adopted solutions:

- I think we have done a solid job; the temporary Committee will deal with a  quite broad scope of topics. We have defined the decision-making process and we have defined the deadlines. The deadline for the Committee’s work to be completed is 30 September 2019, in order to leave enough time for the Parliament to adopt all these laws, especially those relating to the electoral legislation, or to hear objections to some other laws which are in procedure. If something is to be harmonised before that, then it will be on the agenda before that. I am certain that we will have an interesting debate even if only about that item of the agenda. All MPs will be given an opportunity to state their position on the Decision, to voice their opinions, to submit amendments to the Decision, and I hope that very soon, maybe even on that day, we would vote on the Decision in the plenary sitting.

President Brajović reminded that almost all MPs belonging to MP groups are participating in the Collegium’s work, after even a member of the new SNP-DEMOS MP Group joined today.
