President of the Parliament hosts ODIHR delegation

President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr Ivan Brajović, spoke today the Deputy Head of the ODIHR election observation mission for the presidential election in Montenegro, Mr Donald Bisson, and the Senior Election Adviser, Mr Vladimir Misev, about the future work of the Committee on further reform of electoral and other legislation.

Expressing gratitude of the Parliament of Montenegro to the OSCE/ODIHR, as a reliable and constructive partner during processes of importance for democratic reforms, President Brajović stressed that one of the most important tasks of the Committee would be the implementation of ODIHR recommendations.

Mr Donald Bisson complemented the high level of approval of all participants in the work on the formation of the Committee. He reminded of the open talks in the Parliament of Montenegro in December last year and expressed his expectation that the work of the Committee would result in the adoption of all necessary changes.

The interlocutors agreed that electoral legislation should keep track of the real needs of every society and to always make room for their improvement.

The President of the Parliament emphasised that the electoral legislation will be the topic of discussion at the forthcoming Cetinje Parliamentary Forum, on 9 November, when MPs from the region and prominent international officials will discuss "Electoral Laws, Participants and Campaigns: is the voter at the centre of attention?"
