President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović today hosted Defence Minister of the Slovak Republic Mr Jaroslav Naď.
President Brajović stressed that Montenegro and the Slovak Republic have built excellent interstate relations and meaningful cooperation, which is a confirmation of a strong partnership and a commitment to the further strengthening of the overall cooperation.
- Slovakia has always been on the side of Montenegro, actively supporting its membership of NATO and European integration, as a true friend and partner. Montenegro has achieved great results in the last term, and I believe that a consistent, European-oriented policy, which aims to strengthen and modernise this country, will gain convincing support from the citizens of Montenegro in the upcoming elections, Mr Brajović emphasised.
Minister Naď said that recognising the progress made in Montenegro, Slovakia has been continuously supporting Montenegro's membership in NATO and the process of integration into the European Union since independence.
- We all in the European Union see the excellent work you have done in meeting the European criteria and we hope that you will continue the same policy after the elections. Slovakia will continue to support Montenegro's further progress even more intensively, and we are convinced that during this mandate of the European Parliament, you will be the best prepared candidate and the next member of the European Union, Minister Naď pointed out.
The Minister emphasised that members of the European Union want the elections to be peaceful and safe, without interference and organised incidents of a "third party", as was the case in the 2016 parliamentary elections.
The interlocutors welcomed the cooperation in the defence field, and Minister Naď particularly praised the activities of the Montenegrin soldiers in the joint mission of the two countries in Latvia within NATO.
