Chairperson of the Committee on European Integration Mr Adrijan Vuksanović visits “Democracy Workshops”

The workshop discussed the European Union, negotiation process of Montenegro and the EU, and mobility programmes for the youth

Chairperson of the Committee on European Integration Mr Adrijan Vuksanović today has visited “Democracy Workshops”, where he spoke with eight grade students of Njegoš Primary School, from Cetinje, on the topics such as: the European Union, Montenegro’s accession negotiations, education and the development of the youth.

Answering the students’ questions about the creation and functioning of the European Union, Chairperson Vuksanović reminded of the first philosophical ideas about creating a federally organised Europe, and stressed the importance of post-war cooperation in the field of coal and steel as a cornerstone of peace and cooperation.  Also, the workshop discussed the EU symbols, common European currency, and various programmes for youth mobility.  Chairperson Vuksanović stressed the importance of student exchange, as the best way to expand the perspective and acquire new knowledge and skills.

When it comes to negotiations between Montenegro and the EU, Chairperson Vuksanović said that proper implementation of reforms was the most important task for the overall society, and that Montenegro had already nourished the European values through its devotion to multiculturalism, peace and cooperation.

At the end of the visit, Chairperson Vuksanović advised the students to work on their education and developing of new skills, so that they, as young citizens, can contribute to the success of the European path of Montenegro and the development of our society within the European Community.

“Barbara Prammer” Democracy Workshops is education programme of the Parliament of Montenegro, where primary school students learn during four-hour workshop on parliamentary democracy, adoption and enforcements of laws, active citizens, values and history of the EU and universal principles translated into human and child rights.
