Members of the Committee on European Integration today have met a delegation of the Committee on European Affairs and Oversight of the European Funds of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, headed by the Committee Chairperson Mr Kristijan Vigenin.
Chairperson of the Committee on European Integration Mr Adrijan Vuksanović stressed the importance of the declaration adopted at the EU-Western Balkans Summit held in Sofia on 17 May, and thanked Bulgaria for the support it provided to Montenegro on its European path. He presented the current progress of the state in the process of negotiations with the European Union, adding that true commitment of Montenegrin institutions and the support of citizens to Montenegro's membership in the family of European nations was behind good statistical indicators.
Chairperson of the Committee on European Affairs and Oversight of the European Funds of the National Assembly Republic of Bulgaria Mr Kristijan Vigenin emphasised the importance of parliamentary dimensions of the enlargement process, as a symbolic indicator of citizens' support to this process, and pointed to the positive impetus that the Bulgarian presidency gave to the countries of the region. Also, he said that the EU’s focus in the upcoming period should be on the enlargement process, through merit-based assessment of candidate countries.
The two committees agreed at the meeting to sign a cooperation protocol, in order to deepen the existing communication and create a model of long-term cooperation and representing common interests.
Aside from Chairperson of the Committee Mr Adrijan Vuksanović, the following members of the Committee attended the meeting: Ms Marija Ćatović, Ms Daliborka Pejović, Mr Mihailo Anđušić and Mr Momčilo Martinović.
The meeting was also attended by Mr Mladen Chervenyakov, Bulgarian Ambassador to Montenegro.
