At the 59th meeting that was held on 16 June 2020, in the eve of the World Refugee Day, celebrated on 20 June, the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms considered the Final Report on the implementation of the Strategy for Permanent Resolution of the Issue of Displaced Persons and Refugees in Montenegro, with Special Emphasis on Konik Area 2017-2019
The Chairperson of the Committee, Mr Halil Duković, reminded that this day was first introduced by the Organisation of African Unity, followed by the United Nations General Assembly pronouncing 20 June to be marked as the World Refugee Day by Resolution 55/7620 of 4 December 2000, celebrated in memory of persons who were forced to leave their homes due to wars, fear of persecution, violence and conflict, but also as a support to all those who have faced similar problems today. He also reminded of the Geneva Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees of 1951.
The Chairperson of the Committee emphasised that the Committee, despite the progress made, continued to undertake activities in this area, including four control hearings of the coordinator of the Coordinating Committee on Monitoring the Implementation of the Strategy for Permanent Resolution of the Issue of Displaced Persons and Refugees in Montenegro, with Special Emphasis on Konik Area, and the control hearing of the ECRI National Coordinator for Montenegro, Assistant Minister for Human and Minority Rights. He concluded that Montenegro, as shown by the data of the considered Report, can be proud today of the results achieved in the field of displaced and internally displaced persons.
It was decided for the Committee to prepare a Report with a Conclusion on the Final Report on the implementation of the Strategy for Permanent Resolution of the Issue of Displaced Persons and Refugees in Montenegro, with Special Emphasis on Konik Area 2017-2019 and to submit it to the Collegium of the President of the Parliament, for information and implementation by the competent institutions.
