By boycotting the Parliament and avoiding to participate in the work of the Working Group for amending electoral legislation, the Montenegrin opposition demonstrates that it does not care about improvement of electoral conditions, which in the future should serve it as an alibi for new electoral failures, said Chairperson of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants Mr Andrija Nikolić in his meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of France to Montenegro H.E. Ms Christine Toudic Gaborit.
The punishment for such irresponsible behaviour was given in the form of the result fiasco at the recently held local elections in four Montenegrin municipalities, which at the same time signalled the crash of the policy of boycotting the Parliament. It is in their interest, but primarily in the interest of the state of Montenegro, to correctly interpret the severe warning of the electoral public, emphasised Mr Nikolić.
Ambassador of the Republic of France to Montenegro Ms Toudic pointed out that the EU representatives had been suggesting in all their conversations with the opposition that the boycott was not the solution and that it should end, but that such good-intentioned advice was not being met with understanding.
Ms Toudic also noted that the recent establishment of the Association “French-Montenegrin Business Circle” would strengthen the economic cooperation of the two states, while the announced opening of the French preschool institution and a primary school in Montenegro would contribute to attracting a greater number of the French investors.
Mr Nikolić reminded that the French were the most numerous tourists in Montenegro when it comes to the EU citizens, with assessment that there was still room for the strengthening of economic cooperation.
They also voiced mutual interest in the strengthening of parliamentary cooperation, especially at the level of working bodies in charge of foreign affairs.
