The Fifth Conference of Danube Parliamentarians ends

Declaration on preventing climate change effects on agriculture, water management and system of water use

MP Ms Sanja Pavićević, ambassador of the Parliament of Montenegro to Hungary Mr Aleksandar Moštrokol, and MP Mr Mirsad Murić attended the Fifth Conference of Danube Parliamentarians.

On day two of the Conference, the participants were addressed by the following: Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary Mr László Kövér, and Deputy Speaker István Jakab, Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia Ms Maja Gojković, Speaker of the National Assembly of Slovenia Mr Dejan Židan and Vice President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Mr Ivo Bárek.

During the Conference, the participants were informed about the experiences in the fields of agriculture, climate change, sustainable development, water management and water use systems, as well as about the problems of floods, droughts, and water loss. They also pointed out the significance of protection of soil and biodiversity, for the purpose of preventing extreme effects of climate change, modern water management and sustainable use of natural resources, in line with the UN goals.

At the end of their work, they adopted the Declaration recognising climate change as the cause of problems in agriculture and water management, and they call for countries of the Danube region to act and reduce the effects of climate change, prevent erosion, introduce systems for drainage and preservation of soil fertility.

Following the Conference, the MPs visited the Embassy of Montenegro to Budapest.
