Member of the Permanent Delegation of the NATO PA, Mr Obrad Mišo Stanišić, is participating in the Joint Meeting of the Defence and Security Committee, Economics and Security Committee, Political Committee and Officers of the Committee on the Civil Dimension of Security and of the Science and Technology Committee of the NATO PA, which is being held on 19 - 21 February 2018 in Brussels.
On the first day of the meeting, the representative of the Parliament of Montenegro to the NATO PA, Mr Obrad Mišo Stanišić, participated in the meeting of the Permanent Representatives in the North Atlantic Council, together with the Ambassador Ms Dragana Radulović - Permanent Representative of Montenegro to NATO.
In his address to the participants of the meeting, chaired by Mr Jens Stoltenberg - NATO Secretary General, Mr Stanišić expressed his special pleasure for being part of the meeting in the capacity of a representative of the country that fully supported the goals of NATO, and for the first time participated fully in the work of the meeting. In the context of the aforementioned, he stressed that Montenegro fully supported the vision and priorities presented by NATO Secretary General, Mr Jens Stoltenberg, while expressing full readiness and commitment to continue undertaking activities in this direction, with the aim of raising NATO's capacity, providing responses to the security challenges and ensuring a safe environment for citizens.
Mr Stanišić continued his speech expressing support with the view that the Summit in Brussels, to be held in July, would be an opportunity to strengthen and deepen cooperation among NATO Member States, and stressed its importance, noting that only the joint action of member states could significantly contribute to providing the best, joint results of the Alliance in the future.
On this occasion, recognising the importance of countries aspiring to membership in terms of strengthening the security environment in the world, Mr Obrad Mišo Stanišić expressed full support for continuing the action of these countries in the right direction, and expressed in this regard the interest in the manner this issue would be recognised at the upcoming Summit in Brussels, and whether, on this occasion, a special meeting with NATO aspirant countries was planned.
During the meeting with Permanent Representatives to the North Atlantic Council, attended by members of the Bureau, Standing Committee, Committee Chairpersons and members of the delegations from the United States and Canada, the current issues in the subject area were considered.
The first session of the meeting then followed that was chaired by Mr Ojars Eriks Kalnins from Latvia, Chairperson of the Political Committee, with Mr Paolo Alli from Italy, President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, addressing the participants with words of welcome on this occasion. Next on the agenda were the presentations by Ambassador Alejandro Alvargonzález, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy on "NATO Before the Brussels Summit" and by Ambassador Arndt Freytag von Loringhoven, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence and Security on "Tackling the Terrorist Challenge – NATO’s Role".
