During the visit to Azerbaijan by the Economics and Security Committee - Sub-Committee on Transition and Development of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, there were discussions from the domain of political development of the host country, economic opportunities in this area and the role of the World Bank in this regard, as well as security challenges and other significant topics.
On this occasion, there was special emphasis on Azerbaijan's relationship with NATO, the European Union, the United States of America, Russia, and China.
With this visit to Azerbaijan, the Economics and Security Committee - Sub-Committee on Transition and Development of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly has established a parliamentary dialogue on the following: foreign and regional policy of Azerbaijan, security and stability in the Middle East and Central Asia region, economic and domestic challenges of the host country, energy policy in the region, and energy security in the Caucasus and Central Asia region.
On day three of the visit of the Economics and Security Committee - Sub-Committee on Transition and Development, a meeting was held with Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Mr Araz Azimov, during which the NATO Parliamentary Assembly delegates were presented with an overview of the foreign and regional policy of Azerbaijan, with a special emphasis on its historical part, its achievements, as well as the current challenges that this country was facing, and the modalities for overcoming them.
On this occasion, during the delegates’ discussions, there was special emphasis on Azerbaijan's relationship with NATO, the European Union, the United States of America, Russia, and China.
At the end of the visit to the Committee on Economy and Security - the Transition Subcommittee, a meeting of delegates of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly with the Minister of Energy Perviz Sahbazov was held, during which, on the basis of current information in the subject area, the discussion was most focused on Azerbaijan energy policies and its long-term prospects, renewable energy sources as well as relations with Russia, the European Union and China in the area of energy.
On this occasion, the delegates also voiced their interest in the challenges faced by the Azerbaijan in this regard, the possibilities for overcoming them, and the issues of future expectations in the outlined context.
On this occasion, members of the Delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, when visiting the Honorary Consulate, had a meeting with the Honorary Consul of Montenegro in Baku Mr Vugar Aliyev. During the meeting, they discussed previous cooperation in the field of foreign affairs, economy, transportation, tourism, and culture, and activities planned for the upcoming period, with a special emphasis on modalities of further strengthening and deepening of friendly relations and cooperation between Montenegro and Azerbaijan.
About 30 parliamentarians from NATO member states participated in the visit to Baku, Azerbaijan, by the Economics and Security Committee - Sub-Committee on Transition and Development, but also there were meetings held with senior officials of the National Assembly and the Government of Azerbaijan, state institutions, representatives of international organisations etc.
With the end of this meeting, the Economics and Security Committee - Sub-Committee on Transition and Development ended its visit to Azerbaijan.
