Day two of the visit of the Economics and Security Committee - Sub-Committee on Transition and Development of the NATO PA to Belgrade

The basic goal of the visit of the Economics and Security Committee - Sub-Committee on Transition and Development of the NATO PA to Belgrade was to inform the participants, delegates of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, on the level of domestic and foreign political development of Serbia, security challenges, European and Euro-Atlantic integration in the Western Balkans countries, and development of forum for exchanging opinions.

On day two of the visit, at the meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Ivica Dačić, in the context of the panel on “Relations of Serbia with the European Union, Russia and North America”, the delegates of the Parliamentary Assembly were given a presentation on the foreign policy priorities of the Republic of Serbia, and a separate part of the discussion was dedicated to issues of its European future viewed through the prism of the region, with special reference to the challenges faced by the Republic of Serbia in the process of European integration and the possibilities for overcoming them. 

The continuation of the visit was marked by the meeting with representatives of the International Organisation for Migration, Head of Office in Belgrade Ms Lidija Marković and Subregional Coordinator for the Western Balkans Mr Peter Van der Auweraert, during which there was a discussion on the topic “Migration and Refugee Crisis in the Region and Applied Measures” and opinions were exchanged on the topic of migration at the regional level, and current issues of security nature in the Western Balkans region and beyond. In the context of the said topic, the participants in the visit showed interest in the challenges and threats of global nature and possibilities for finding solutions for preventing, eliminating and solving them.

In the final part of day two of the visit of the Economics and Security Committee - Sub-Committee on Transition and Development, there was a meeting with State Secretary of the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs in the Government of the Republic of Serbia Mr Nenad Ivanišević, within visit to the Centre for Asylum Seekers in Krnjača, during which the participants, delegates of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, based on direct insight, had the opportunity to be informed on the accommodation capacities and conditions in which the asylum seekers live, and to develop a discussion on the current issues and problems.

Head of the Permanent Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Mr Branimir Gvozdenović and member Mr Obrad Mišo Stanišić are taking part in the visit of the Economics and Security Committee - Sub-Committee on Transition and Development of the NATO PA.
