Meeting of the General Committee on Social Development, Education, Research and Science of the South-East European Cooperation Process Parliamentary Assembly – SEECP PA, was held today at the Plenary Hall of the Parliament of Montenegro.
The Meeting that was chaired by Mr Radule Novović, member of the Parliament of Montenegro, gathered parliamentarians from ten countries of the South-East European Cooperation Process, while the meeting was attended by Mr Damir Šehović, Minister of Education, and the expert at the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), Ms Mimika Dobroshi, who addressed the participants with their opening speeches.
The General Committee was dedicated to the topic "Education in the SEE region: current situation and perspectives", and MPs from the countries of the Southeast Europe region reflected in their speeches on the situation in their countries, presented good practices and pointed to the problems they faced with regard to implementing of policy in this important area.
Chairperson of the SEECP PA General Committee on Social Development, Education, Research and Science, MP Novović, while presenting the report and the resolution prepared by the delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro to the PS SEECP, said that the countries of the region have made significant efforts to improve national education systems, which has certainly been contributed by quality cooperation, exchange of information and good practices.
Novović also emphasised the importance of improving the education system in the SEECP countries, stressing that the educational system also provided developing of feelings for the identity of ones own country, and that at the same time it created the awareness and views of individuals in understanding the diverse processes in society.
In his introductory speech, Minister Šehović presented to the participants what has been done during the previous year with regard to the reform of the educational system in Montenegro. The Minister emphasised that the Government of Montenegro has launched a reform of all levels of education, aware of the need to rely on a new model of growth, based on smart and sustainable growth, with innovations and knowledge as key movers of education.
At the end of the meeting, with the assessment that these are documents of high quality, members of the General Committee adopted the Report and Resolution, which will be discussed and ratified at the session of the South-East European Cooperation Process Parliamentary Assembly, which will be held on 13 and 14 April in Ljubljana, in the framework of the Slovenian Chairmanship of the initiative.
Beside the Parliament of Montenegro as the host, representatives of the following parliaments attended: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Croatia, Kosovo, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia and Turkey.
