General Committee on Social Development, Education, Research and Science of the SEECP PA holds a meeting

The meeting of the General Committee on Social Development, Education, Research and Science of the Parliamentary Assembly of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP PA) chaired by Mr Radule Novović, was held today in the Plenary Hall of the Parliament of Montenegro.

At the meeting, opened with the welcome speech by President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović, they held a discussion on: “Science and New Technologies at the Service of Modern Education”.

Addressing the attendees, President Brajović has voiced his satisfaction with the topic which has gathered the parliamentarians from the region to the General Committee meeting, pointing out that education is a nucleus of development of a society.

I am aware that the introduction of new technologies in the education system enriches and facilitates valorisation of knowledge, both of students and teachers. However, that process should not be implemented so easily, but it requires fundamental and systematic approach. – said President of the Parliament Mr Brajović in his address to participants in the meeting.

Presenting the Report and Resolution prepared by the Delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro to the SEECP PA, Chairperson of the General Committee on Social Development, Education, Research and Science of the SEECP PA MP Novović said that science and technology were areas built into the foundations of modern society, areas upon which rested the prosperity of human community.

Political, social and economic progress, during this millennium, will depend on the intellectual potential of the next generations of young people, namely, it could be said that the intellectual capital of citizens represents a driving force of the 21st century, said Mr Novović.

Mr Novović also points out that, in the era of globalisation and fast technologic advancements, when scientific and technical achievement permeate all segments of human life, the development of a knowledge-based innovative society is a primary factor of social, economic, educational and cultural development.

Within the introductory session, the General Committee members were also addressed by Minister of Education Mr Damir ŠehovićMinister of Science Ms Sanja Damjanović as well as the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) expert Ms Mimika Dobroshi. Upon the invitation of the Chairperson of the General Committee, the meeting was also attended by guests from the sphere of education and science from Montenegro.

In their addresses, the MPs from the SEE countries referred to the situation in their respective countries, presented good practices and pointed out the problems they were facing with regard to policy implementation in this significant area.

At the end of the meeting, members of the General Committee adopted the texts of the Report and the Resolution, with an assessment that they were documents of good quality, which will be discussed and confirmed at the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the South-East European Cooperation Process, which will be held in June in Sarajevo, within the framework of the Bosnian Chairmanship of this initiative.

In addition to the said guests, the meeting was attended by the General Committee members from the following parliaments: Turkey, Serbia, Romania, Slovenia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Bulgaria and Croatia.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP PA) was established on 10 May 2014 in Bucharest, as a result of the multiannual work of participating states on institutionalisation of the parliamentary dimension of this initiative from 1996.
