During the five-day session, the MPs will address the topics of derogations from the European Convention on Human Rights at states of emergency, fighting organised crime through the confiscation of illegal assets, the legal challenges regarding hybrid wars, humanitarian needs of internally displaced persons, the implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change, and the funding of the terrorist group Daesh.
A joint debate will be dedicated to the topics of protecting editorial integrity and the status of journalists. There are also urgent debates on the Copenhagen Declaration and the Report of the Independent Investigation Body on the allegations of corruption within the PACE. Furthermore, the current issues debate will also include the discussion on Europe's role in peace-making initiatives in Syria.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Macedonia Mr Nikola Dimitrov will be a guest of the Parliamentary Assembly, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland will answer the questions posed by parliamentarians, while Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark Mr Anders Samuelsen will address the MPs in his capacity as the Chairman of the Committee of Ministers.
In its Spring Session, the Parliamentary Assembly will also elect a judge from Montenegro to the European Court of Human Rights
