Delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) consisting of MPs Predrag Sekulić, Head of Delegation, Ms Marija Ćatović, Ms Sanja Pavićević and Mr Ervin Ibrahimović, is taking in the PACE Summer Session, held in Strasbourg, from 24 to 28 June.
The session, which marks the 70th anniversary of the Council of Europe, will discuss topics crucial to its further work and functioning – involvement of national delegations in the work of the Parliamentary Assembly, focusing on credentials and decision-making process concerning sanctions, as well as the Council's budget and priorities for the period 2020-2021.
Also, during the session, the PACE will elect a new Secretary General of the Organisation.
Items on the agenda include a debate on the difficulties in implementing the Istanbul Convention, the fight against violence against children and the exploitation of migrant children, as well as the Council of Europe's Agenda for Gender Equality. The Assembly will also discuss post-monitoring dialogue with Bulgaria, rule of law in Malta and the situation in Syria.
As part of regular communication with the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Ms Amélie de Montchalin, France’s Secretary of State for European Affairs, will present priorities of the French Presidency for the next six months. Mr Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of Portugal, will be a guest of the Parliamentary Assembly, while Ms Dunja Mijatović, CoE’s Commissioner for Human Rights, and Mr Mr Thorbjørn Jagland, outgoing Secretary General of the Council of Europe, will also deliver addresses.
At this June session, the Parliamentary Assembly will also elect judges to the European Court of Human Rights, proposed by Estonia and Germany.
